What is mono output?

Mono output refers to sound that is produced in a single channel or direction. It is essentially a single audio signal that is mixed down to a mono source, as opposed to stereo output which uses two channels to create a sense of directionality and spatial presence.

Mono output is commonly used in scenarios where a single speaker is being used, such as in public address systems, some older radios, or older music recordings. Mono output is also used in situations where stereo separation is not necessary or desired, such as in phone calls or certain types of audio equipment.

While stereo output can provide a more immersive and dynamic listening experience, mono output can be sufficient for many applications and can save on resources and bandwidth. However, it is important to note that some audio recordings, especially those made in stereo, may lose some clarity or depth when converted to mono output.
